The Gelest Manufacturing Facility site is a very logistically tight site that includes two new facilities and is currently in progress. There is approximately 25’ around the perimeter of the building footprint on 3 sides. Normally, this would be challenging, but this project has the added complexity of major rebar infill in the cast-in-place concrete blast-proof construction. This construction requires cranes for placing form panels and prefabricated rebar mats. There are currently 3 cranes on site, each with visual swing restrictions.
The site is directly adjacent to the tank farm which has hundreds of barrels of chemicals in storage. The logistics plans required us to erect a 20’ high plywood Jurassic Park fence to separate the job site from the tank farm.
In addition to the traditional challenges noted above, and perhaps most importantly, we have been deemed by the Owner as a safety mentor to the Owner, who is in the process of changing the safety culture at Gelest. They are representing internally to their company that the job site is the safety standard to which Gelest should aspire to.
