Barr & Barr is proud to announce that we have been selected to build Cornell University’s First Academic Building which will be the first of several buildings to be constructed on their new 12 acre NYC Tech Campus located on Roosevelt Island.  The First Academic Building will provide graduate students, facility and administrators with a new facility for research and education.  The building design reflects Cornell’s goals of creativity and excellence, providing flexible academic spaces and pioneering new standards in building performances and sustainability.

Opening in 2017, the First Academic Building is striving for a net zero energy usage and LEED Platinum rating setting a benchmark in sustainability for NYC buildings and construction.

The building will be constructed of steel and concrete, the façade will be a unitized system of metals panels, windows and curtainwall, the building will be heated and cooled by a closed loop geothermal system and the roof will be covered with 40,000SF of photovoltaic panels.
