Barr & Barr recently completed the restoration and renovation of UMass Amherst’s 1885 iconic Old Chapel building. With a brand new facelift this building reopens its doors after 20 years to students, faculty and staff.
The three story building is a masonry and wood-framed structure with rusticated masonry facades and a sloped slate roof. Structural and seismic upgrades were made along with careful restoration and preservation of key building elements. Interior finishes were completely refurbished or replaced. A new Entry Pavilion and Exterior Plaza Addition was added along with all new MEP and FP systems.
The renovated and repurposed facility will provide UMass Amherst with a space for events and musical performances and ability to house short-term exhibitions, coordinate student activities, provide meeting spaces and pre-function areas for students, faculty and staff.
