UMass Amherst - Student Union Renovation
The UMASS Student Union project was a renovation and addition to the seventy (70) year old existing Student Union Structure. The new space supports 400-plus student organizations, entrepreneurship and events. It includes an interior ‘Main Street’ showcasing student-run businesses, a black box theatrical event space, ballroom renovation and a craft center. This building creates a connection of student engagement, reinventing the building as a social & cultural ‘Hub’ for the university. The building also includes a Global Campus Living Room to host events, symposia, and workshops that support trans-disciplinary learning and connection. The campuses media center, housing the University’s Radio and TV station was also a part of the renovation. Another main component of this project was the exterior renovations that created a ‘campus connection’ at the heart of the University. This included a new entryway, outdoor plaza, seating areas and elaborate stone walls and walkways.
This project was awarded LEED Silver Certification.
