The state-of-the-art research facility contains the Armstrong Science Library, numerous classrooms including additional space for the language school, six floors of laboratories, offices, a rooftop observatory, a greenhouse and the five-story Tormondsen Great Hall that serves as the buildings “town square”.
“Green” building features include natural and recycled building materials; and energy saving strategies such as a heat-recovery ventilation system, extensive natural lighting, motion sensitive lighting controls, high efficiency lighting, and triple-glazed windows. 125,000 Board feet of maple, cherry, oak, birch, and beech millwork was harvested and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified from Vermont forests.
Extensive blasting and excavation, a 2,200 linear foot road extension serves the facility and a 200 car parking lot.
