Mental Health Awareness

A message from Reginald Shubert, Corporate Safety Director.

As safety week ended on this past Friday, we reflect on our shared commitment to sending every worker home safely. The safety industry put spotlights on Fall Protection, the leading cause of fatalities in construction. We engaged our teams with toolbox talks, hands on equipment inspections, scaffold, ladder refreshers, peer to peer walks and even some drop demonstrations. The message was loud and clear, fall fatalities are preventable. Let’s continue to carry this energy forward year-round.

However, today, I would like to confront a difficult truth. Construction has the highest suicide rate of any industry. it is time to BREAK THE SILENCE. Please remind your teams that it is ok not to be ok. Mental health is safety. A strong mind is just as critical as a strong harness.

Let’s stop asking “What is Wrong” and start asking “How Can I Help”. No one hides their happiness, let each other know that you are not alone.

When we prioritize psychological safety alongside physical safety, we not only build better projects, but more importantly, we build better lives. So, help us “Stand Up” and “Raise the Barr” for Suicide Prevention and remind your teams that they are not alone. #988
