Today over 100 people visited our jobsite to witness and celebrate an important milestone at our Moffitt SPEROS MAC and Proton Therapy Center project – the lifting and installation of the 76-ton IBA’s Cyclotron, the Proteus®ONE[1] compact proton therapy system. This equipment took over 2.5 years to build and traveled all the way from Belgium! On Thursday, the team will install the Gantry equipment which connects to the Cyclotron. Proton therapy uses targeted radiation to treat tumors while protecting adjacent tissue more accurately, resulting in dramatically less side effects and better outcomes for patients.
Many thanks to the dignitaries that shared praise for the project including Dr. Patrick Hwu, MD (President & CEO of Moffitt Cancer Center), Dr. Josh Carpenter (President of Speros and Moffitt’s Chief Integration Officer) and many others. We’re reminded every day that the meaning of the Latin word SPEROS is to “bring Hope” and we’re inspired to be working on this project which will bring healing to Pasco County and the entire Tampa Bay Region!
