Bangor Fire Station No. 6 featured in Fire Chief Design Magazine

27 November, 2009 - In 2007, the city of Bangor became the first municipality in Maine to require LEED Certification for all municipal projects. Fire Station No. 6 is the first project designed and built since that policy was adopted and will be the first certified station in the state of Maine; the project is targeting Gold certification (which it has since been awarded). Fire Station No. 6 is a new three-bay fire station for the busiest service area in the city of Bangor, replacing an outdated and too-small existing station.

Station No. 6 was designed to house five pieces of apparatus: one engine, one aerial, one tanker and two rescue. Twenty firefighters will work in four, five-man shifts. The station is located in a rural area; however the station district protects residential, commercial and industrial areas.

The specific requirements for this facility were for additional square footage in the living and apparatus areas, an improved training area, a dedicated physical fitness room and female bathroom facilities. Also required were central air conditioning, multi-zone heating control and energy efficiency. The project was completed on time and within budget.
