The Hanover Theatre issued a Certificate of Occupancy

11 March, 2008 - Barr & Barr was recently issued a Certificate of Occupancy for the Historical Renovations and Restoration at the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts. Located in Worcester, MA, the Theatre seeks to create a vibrant cultural destination, bringing world-class theatre, music and entertainment events to central Massachusetts. In doing so, it will: 1) Participate fully in the revitalization of downtown Worcester by bringing patrons into the Federal Square area for performing arts events, dining, and shopping. 2) Restore a historically and architecturally significant venue. 3) Provide a vital resource for central Massachusetts' performing arts, cultural and civic organizations and colleges.

The theatre, built in 1904, has changed names and owners several times over the years. The most recent transition was in 2002 when the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts, a not-for-profit corporation, acquired the former Loew’s Poli Theatre from National Amusements to begin restoration. Restoration included uncovering and renovating the theatre’s historic façade and restoring the original seating configuration as well as increasing the size of the stage and upgrading mechanical, lighting and sound systems. The theatre’s historic lobby is complemented by an added 40-foot glass atrium and pavilion, overlooking Worcester’s Federal Square. The restored theatre is a state-of-the-art venue with over 2,000 seats equipped to handle large-scale theatrical and musical performances including major Broadway tours, comedy performers, international artists and family shows. The Worcester arts community and area colleges will utilize the Hanover Theatre and lobby pavilion for meetings, guest speakers, festivals and other functions.

Congratulations to the project team. When the curtain is drawn and that first round of applause is raised to the roof, it will be for you.
