The Bass Library at Yale University issued a Certificate of Occupancy |
5 November, 2007 - Barr & Barr was recently issued a Certificate of Occupancy for the extensive renovations to the Bass Library at Yale University. Located in the shadow of Yale’s Sterling and Memorial Library (SML), the Bass Library accommodates a variety of study areas and a collection of 167,000 in a two-story, 60,000 square foot underground structure.
The library - which first opened in 1971 as the Cross Campus Library - underwent the complete demolition of all existing interior finishes, walls, ceilings, mechanical spaces and associated equipment. Project scope also included the renovation of approximately 10,000 square feet of space in the basement of the Sterling Memorial Library and the tunnel that connects the two libraries.
Now a state-of-the-art 21st century study space, the Bass Library includes new electronic classrooms, individual and group study rooms, media spaces, a cafe, new shelving for the collection, associated staff offices and support space. A new main entry pavilion for the Bass Library was also constructed at grade level on the northeast corner of the quad.
Congratulations to the project team; they have exemplified what a project managed by Barr & Barr represents to the owner and community.
