Barr & Barr and OSHA Area Office in Syracuse, NY enter into a Partnering Ageement

7 February, 2007 - Recently a signing ceremony was held at the Life Science Center job site to announce a partnering agreement between OSHA, Barr & Barr and 12 Subcontractors currently working on the project. The goal of the partnership is to eliminate serious hazards and achieve a high level of worker safety for the men and women constructing the project.

The Life Science Center is an $88 million, 29-month project that entails the construction of a five-story, 225,000 square foot life sciences building with a structural steel frame, mechanical penthouse, and roof top greenhouse. The building exterior will consist of curtain wall, punched windows, zinc metal panels and a terra cotta rain screen system. The project is scheduled to be completed in July of 2008.

Highlights of the agreement include: providing 100% fall protection for all employees working at heights of six feet or more; eliminating exposure to trench and excavation cave-in hazards; preventing harmful exposure to airborne silica; reducing exposure to electrical hazards through the use of ground-fault circuit interrupters; third-party inspections of all cranes and scissor/aerial lifts; weekly safety & health audits; mandatory OSHA-10 training for all workers, available free of charge; principles meetings to design strategies to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries & illnesses; and employee involvement in all aspects of the agreement. 

Signing the agreement for Barr & Barr were President Donald Barr, Project Manager Joseph Berry, Superintendent Rick Budnar and Safety Director Jim Manoli. Regional Administrator Patricia Clark and Area Director Christopher Adams inked the agreement for OSHA. Also on hand was OSHA Compliance Assistance Specialist Michael Casler, who played a vital role in the conception and formation of the partnership. Immediately following the signing ceremony, Barr & Barr President Donald Barr issued the following statement, "We are delighted to enter into this partnership with OSHA for the Life Science Center Project. It is our belief that this agreement will further our ability to provide state-of-the-art health and safety programs, and will be a major benefit to the men and women building the project."
