"Topping Off" ceremony held at Syracuse University for the new Life Science Center |
2 February, 2007 - Despite Mother Nature's best efforts, this week Barr & Barr and Syracuse University held a "Topping Off" ceremony for the new Life Science Center. The occasion marks an important and visible milestone to Syracuse University's major campus expansion scheduled to open in late 2008. Congratulations to everyone involved with the project.

"Topping off" is an industry tradition that marks the moment when the uppermost steel beam is put in place, signifying the completion of the building’s main structure. To celebrate this event, the last steel beam is signed and hoisted into place by the project team. Traditionally, an evergreen tree and the American flag are placed on the beam as it is lowered on to the building. The evergreen symbolizes the growth and strength of the building and celebrates that the project has proceeded well and without injury.
