"Topping Off" ceremony held at Mercy Medical Center for the new ICU Addition and ASU Renovations |
23 January, 2007 - This week, Barr & Barr and the Mercy Medical Center held a "Topping Off" ceremony for the new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Addition and Ambulatory Services Unit (ASU) Renovations. The occasion marks an important and visible milestone to Mercy Medical's campus expansion scheduled to open by the end of 2007.

"Topping off" is an industry tradition that marks the moment when the uppermost steel beam is put in place, signifying the completion of the building’s main structure. To celebrate this event, the last steel beam is signed and hoisted into place by the project team. Traditionally, an evergreen tree and the American flag are placed on the beam as it is lowered on to the building. The evergreen symbolizes the growth and strength of the building and celebrates that the project has proceeded well and without injury.
